How to Tie Your Christmas Tree to Your Car

christmas tree farm

It’s that special time of year again and you just scored big at the Christmas tree farm, now all that’s left is to get it home in one piece. That can be easier said than done, but with these tips and tricks you can safely tie your Christmas tree to your car without any added stress.

1. Measure: Before purchasing your Christmas tree, measure the height of the room where you plan to display the tree to ensure it will fit. Ideally, your tree should be at least six inches below the ceiling or lower depending on the size of your tree topper.

2. Use the Right Vehicle: It’s best to transport your new fir tree on top of a vehicle equipped with a roof rack, but if need be you can use the bed of a pickup truck, or an SUV, van, or minivan that can fit the tree inside with all the doors closed.

3. Protect Your Car and Tree: Most Christmas tree farms provide netting, but if you happen to go to one that doesn’t, shake the tree before wrapping it in an old blanket or tarp to free any loose needles. It’s also a good idea to lay down another blanket on the roof or bed of your truck to protect your car from scratches, and ensure the tree won’t shed as many needles on the way home.

4. Position the Tree: The tree should be placed so that the trunk is facing toward the front of the car. This helps prevent wind damage to the tree and guarantees your beautiful tree you just picked out won’t lose too many needles.

5. Tying it in Place with Roof Racks: If you have a roof rack, secure the tree to your vehicle by first opening your car doors; if you try to tie the tree down through the windows, you won’t be able to open your car doors. Next, take a piece of rope and knot it to one side of the roof rack. Stretch the rope across the tree, stopping to wrap the line a couple times around the trunk, before tying off the rope to the roof rack on the other side. Wrapping the line around the trunk helps to prevent the tree from sliding under the line and becoming a danger on the road. All that’s left is to repeat this process at the middle and near the tip of the tree to fully secure it to your ride.

6.Tying it in Place Without Roof Racks: If you don’t have a car with a roof rack, you can still get your tree home safely. As with roof racks, remember to tie down the tree with the doors open, rather than going through the windows. Follow the same instructions as above but use a heavier gauge rope so as to not cut into your car door weather stripping and keep your tree in place.

Whether you get your holiday fir from a local lot or a nearby tree farm, these few foolproof tips can help you transport your Christmas tree without risking life, limb, or damage to your vehicle. Subaru of Morristown Supports Eleventh Hour Rescue

Eleventh Hour Animal Rescue NJHere at Subaru of Morristown, we’ve always felt extremely fortunate to be part of a community that has welcomed us and supported us. As such, we’re always eager to give back–and that includes our four-legged friends!

Subaru is an automaker that’s born to be outdoors, and of course that means bringing your furry friends along for the ride. It’s only fitting that we make an effort to help animals in need to find loving homes, and we do so by partnering with the amazing team over at Eleventh Hour Rescue.

Giving Animals a Second Chance

At Eleventh Hour Rescue, the goal is to help save animals from being euthanized and to help them find a loving home. As their motto says, they won’t stop until every cage is empty. While this is certainly a tall order, and one that requires no small amount of work and dedication from a staff of volunteers, it’s a goal that we agree with here at Subaru of Morristown.

Dog for adoptionBy rescuing animals from kill shelters, providing them with the necessary medical attention and affection, and then working to find them foster–and eventually permanent–homes, Eleventh Hour Rescue has helped many cats and dogs to get off of death row and into loving homes!

Eleventh Hour Rescue hosts adoption days at a number of NJ locations each week, as well as various different events throughout the month to help potential owners meet new cats and dogs in need of a home.

If you’re considering a new pet, we strongly encourage you to adopt an animal in need; just take a look at all of the loving cats and dogs waiting for a home at Eleventh Hour Rescue! If you’re not ready to be a pet parent, you can always support the organization with a one-time or monthly donation to help the volunteers save even more animals.

Morristown Subaru Dealership Celebrates a Decade of Sharing the Love

Here at our Morristown Subaru dealership, one of our favorite holiday traditions is Subaru’s Share the Love event. Each year, this event allows shoppers to choose a charity for Subaru to donate to when they purchase a new vehicle! While it’s hard to believe, we’re thrilled to say that the 2017 holiday season already marks 10 years of this incredible event!

This year isn’t just special because it’s an anniversary, though. In addition to marking the 10th year of Share the Love, 2017 also marks the second year in a row that Subaru will be holding the event without a limit on how much they’ll donate. No matter how many vehicles are sold, Subaru will donate $250 for each and every new vehicle sold through January 2nd, 2018.

Subaru Share the Love Event

A critical component of the Subaru Love Promise, the Share the Love event gives back to communities across the country in hopes of building a better tomorrow for our friends and neighbors. This year, the Share the Love program’s charitable partners include the ASPCA®, Make-a-Wish®, Meals on Wheels America, and the National Park Foundation. By the end of this year’s event, Subaru is hoping to have raised a grand total of $115 million in charitable donations through the program. At Subaru of Morristown, we’re also proud to be working closely with Eleventh Hour Rescue, an organization committed to saving shelter animals.

Making a Difference One Donation at a Time

Giving back is a huge component of what sets Subaru apart, and helps to define the company’s culture. As Alan Bethke, senior vice president of marketing, Subaru of America Inc, says, “It is part of our culture at Subaru to support causes important to our employees, retailers and owners and we are proud to have continued that tradition for ten consecutive years. Through the Share the Love event, we are excited to continue our commitment to support our national and hometown charity partners and aim to donate $115 million in total by the end of this year’s campaign.”

Subaru of Morristown Offers Tips for Fun Fall Activities

As the weather finally starts to cool off a bit, thoughts of flannel and family time and fun fall activities are starting to float through the air. Now is the perfect time to lace up your boots, grab a sweater, and head out to spend some time embracing the season with those you care about.

So, how do we like to spend the season? Fall is all about the harvest, which means it’s the perfect time to get some fresh produce–and eat it, of course!

Apple Picking

Nothing beats fresh apples, especially with great orchards like Riamede Farm, Wightman Farms, and Sun High Orchards right around the corner. Once you bring your apples home, though, you can add to the experience by spending some time in the kitchen rather than just chowing down.

Apple cider

Apple pie is an obvious choice, but many folks are also surprised by just how easy cider is to make. Chop up your apples, toss them in a pot with some water, add spices, boil, and simmer. That’s it! After that, simply strain the mixture and cool it down. Look online for what could be your new favorite cider recipe.

The Pumpkin Patch

A great selection of farms like Conklin Farm, Hamilton Farms, and Middle Valley Farms make it easy to go out and pick pumpkins nearby. Again, there’s an obvious choice for many pickers: jack-o-lanterns! This year, though, grab an extra pumpkin and take a crack at baking with your own fresh pumpkin puree.

Pumpkin pie

Cut the pumpkin into manageable chunks–halves should work well–and put them open-side down on a baking sheet in the oven. Heat them at 350º until tender, then scoop out the flesh and run it through the food processor. Drain the puree with a sieve until itzs thick, and you’re left with fresh, homemade puree! A 5 lbs pumpkin should yield 2 or 3 cups of puree, so make enough for your favorite pumpkin bread or pie recipe and get to baking!

As you make your way around the farm circuit this season, don’t forget that you’ll need plenty of cargo space and a vehicle that isn’t afraid of a rough dirt road. To get a fresh start with a new Subaru this season, don’t hesitate to contact us online or to call the Subaru of Morristown team at (866) 910-3466 today!

Subaru of Morristown Helps Football Fans Load Up for Tailgates

Fall is in the air, and that means it’s finally football season! It doesn’t matter who you’re rooting for; whether you bleed blue or green, we can all agree that tailgating is one of the best traditions that comes with the season.

Here at our Morristown Subaru dealership, there are few things that we love more than a good parking lot party. Whether it’s the high school parking lot on a Friday night or the big stadium on Sunday afternoon, nothing beats a day spent getting amped up with friends before watching the game. Take a look at some of our favorite tips for an out of this world tailgating experience!

Keep it Small

No, not the party–the food! By sticking to smaller bites, you can avoid getting full to make sure you get the chance to try everything. Even better, you can make prep a bit easier!

Grilling kabobs for easy tailgating

The night before, load up containers with diced veggies, marinated meat, and anything else that you can slide onto a skewer. All you’ll have to do at the tailgate is fire up the grill. Then just let everyone go to town building their own kabobs and tossing them on the grill. No prep, no plates, and no need to babysit the grill all afternoon.

Maintain Temperature

Adding ice to the cooler? Use frozen water bottles instead, since they’ll double as drinkable water when they melt during the game. Looking to keep pulled pork or other pre-made favorites warm? Line a cooler with foil and place heated bricks at the bottom to turn it into warming oven. Just be careful to always handle hot objects with care!

Using coolers for tailgating

Load Up

The name of the game might be “tailgating,” but the 2018 Subaru models at our Morristown showroom prove that a liftgate is just as good as a tailgate! With wide cargo openings, fold-flat seats, and roof rails, the latest Subaru crossovers and SUVs make it a breeze to load up on passengers, coolers, canopies, and more. A bit of planning makes it easy to bring everything and everyone along.

For more information on all you can tackle with your Subaru, or to schedule a test drive in the perfect new vehicle to kick off autumn, don’t hesitate to contact us online or to call the Subaru of Morristown team directly at (866) 910-3466 today!

Subaru of Morristown Offers Tips for Staying Organized on the Go

For modern motorists, it can feel like more time is being spent out on the road than at home. With busy schedules, many drivers are constantly flying from point A to point B—and then to points C, D, E, and F!

With so much time spent on the road with your family, the team at our Morristown Subaru dealership knows that a messy car might feel like the natural state of things. However, staying organized is important! When your car is neat and clean—or at least presentable—your time on the road can be that much more enjoyable. Fortunately, we’ve got some simple tips to get things in order!

Getting Things in Order

It always helps to start with a strong foundation. In a vehicle like the 2017 Subaru Outback at our Morristown showroom, drivers will find a plethora or clever storage compartments and cubbies for storing their must-have items. From the dashboard and center console to the cargo area, you’ll be able to tuck things in their proper place.

Of course, you’ll still want to keep things in order. For all of those items you tend to just toss in the center console, such as car chargers, auxiliary cables, and USB cables, an old glasses case can help to keep things neatly coiled and easy to access.

You can also grab a fishing tackle container to organize all of your little items, or even non-perishable snacks for kids and passengers. These cases come in various shapes and sizes, making them ideal for the center console, seat back storage pouch, or cargo area.

Morristown Subaru Service Center Helps Drivers Brace for the Cold

No matter what page of your calendar you’re on, the coolant in your vehicle is absolutely crucial. Keeping your engine cool may seem like a silly thing to worry about as the weather gets colder, but the experts at our Subaru service center in Morristown can tell you that when it comes to temperature it’s all relative!

Your engine runs at around 200º F, which is undeniably hot. To maintain proper performance, though, your car’s coolant system has to work hard to keep your vehicle running at that temperature. Even in cold weather, coolant is necessary to prevent overheating.

Your car’s coolant contains two key parts. The first is very familiar: water! Water is naturally a very good coolant, but it can’t do its job if it freezes solid. That’s where the second component comes into play: antifreeze.

Subaru service specials in Morristown

Antifreeze, which many folks will know as a neon green liquid, prevents your car’s coolant from freezing under extreme temperatures. Needless to say, it’s a problem if your car begins to lose coolant. So, what do you do?

Spotting a Radiator Leak

After flowing through your engine to cool things off, your coolant travels through the radiator to come back down to temperature. A faulty radiator can often be the source of a coolant leak, but it can certainly be difficult to tell.

Morristown Subaru service center

If your car has been overheating or your coolant reservoir has been running low, then chances are that you have a leak. Cracks or drips from the radiator may be obvious if you look under your vehicle, but many leaks may not be evident unless the car is running; some may even be in the form of steam, which can be even harder to identify.

Fortunately, the team at our Morristown Subaru repair center has the resources to find even the toughest leaks. By using a special combination of dye and light, we can pinpoint the source of a leak to get it repaired as quickly as possible.

To ensure that your coolant system is in order and your antifreeze mixture is correct for the changing weather, simply drop by and see us. We invite you to contact us online or to call the Subaru of Morristown team at (866) 910-3466 today to schedule an appointment!
