Replacing the Battery in Your Subaru Key Fob

Battery needed: 2032 watch battery

• There should be a small silver button on the back of your key fob. You will want to click that button to remove the glove box/door key – this will help you with the next step. 
• By either using the glove box key, a flathead screwdriver or a butter knife, pry open the key fob and you will notice that it essentially splits in half. 
• Once you’ve opened up your key fob, you should see the battery right away. Simply remove the battery and replace it with the new one. 
• From there, just put the key fob back together, ensuring that everything clicks back into place. There you have it, you’ve successfully changed your own key fob battery. 

Standard Key Remotes

Battery needed: 1620 watch battery

• Begin by finding the small opening located at the base of the key fob. 
• Pry open the key fob by inserting either a flathead screwdriver or a butter knife. 
• Once separated, you’ll notice there are small tabs located near the panic button. Press those buttons to expose the battery housing. 
• Replace the dead battery with your new size 1620 watch battery. 
• Put the key fob back together and test it to ensure that it works.
