Subaru Dealer in NJ Helps Drivers Lock Down Safety

When you start the search for a new vehicle, the team at our NJ Subaru dealership knows that safety tops your list of necessities. After all, you can’t truly feel at ease on the road unless you know your vehicle has your and your passengers’ safety built in. This is especially true when you’re traveling with children.

Child car set

If you’re shopping for a Subaru, you already know that Subaru takes safety seriously; that’s why the latest Subaru models in our NJ showroom make installing a child seat easy. Even so, it’s still important to double check that you’re using the right car seat for your child and that it’s always installed properly.

Use a Rear-Facing Seat

For infants and small children, a rear-facing child seat is absolutely necessary for their safety. Similarly, the back seat is the safest place for children whether they’re in a car seat, booster seat, or big enough to just be buckled in.

Always check your child seat’s manual to ensure that it is the proper size and type for your child. Which seat you should use will change as your child gets older and heavier, so be prepared for these changes; some seats are designed to change with your child’s needs.

Consult the Expiration Date

You may not know it, but car seats carry an expiration date based on when they’re made and what they’re made of. This is to ensure that older seats don’t stay in use beyond the timeframe they’re guaranteed to perform appropriately. Consult your seat to double check that it’s inside of the acceptable range. If it’s past its date but you purchased it recently, you should be able to exchange it for a new one.

Check Your Buckles

The straps and buckles that hold your car seat in place should all me in good shape and, of course, must be installed correctly. Be sure that they’re snug and in the correct place. Even if you’re confident in your installation, it never hurts to have the seat double-checked; many firehouses and EMT stations offer a free safety seat check for your peace of mind.
