NJ Adventurers Hit the Trail

For many shoppers, a love of the great outdoors is a key facet of what makes the Subaru nameplate so attractive. Whether it’s the lineup’s outstanding capability on tough terrain or the company’s commitment to preserving our nation’s National Parks and open space, Subaru goes hand in hand with adventure.

Fortunately for drivers near Subaru of Morristown, there are plenty of great destinations to head for right here in New Jersey when you’re itching to get some fresh air. Lace up your hiking boots, hop in your Subaru, and let’s hit the trail for a hike!

Hacklebarney State Park

A staple for those looking to snap some nature photos, Hacklebarney State Park in Chester, NJ, is centered around the Black River. The paths here are well maintained and not too steep, making it fairly accessible for groups that include children, pets, or relatively inexperienced hikers.

The clearly defined paths here cover roughly six miles; if you’re looking for something quick, a scenic circuit checks in at a bit below four miles. You’ll also find plenty of picnic tables, making this a solid pick for a leisurely afternoon.

Buttermilk Falls

Centered around New Jersey’s highest waterfall, this trail is easy to reach via car; the 200-foot waterfall is just steps away from a parking lot. The hiking itself, though, is a bit tougher!

From the falls, an initially steep path will take you to Crater Lake via a section of the Appalachian Trail. From here, you’ll head to Hemlock Pond before making your way back to the falls. The loop is just under eight miles; you can take other loops for a shorter circuit, but the steep ascent will always be the starting point.

High Point State Park

If you liked the state’s highest waterfall, then you’re sure to love the view from New Jersey’s aptly named High Point State Park. The monument at the park’s peak is–you guessed it–the state’s highest point, checking in at 1,803 feet.

The park includes a number of meandering trails, with circuits ranging from three to eight miles. Some of the trails once again overlap with bits of the Appalachian Trail. When you reach the monument, a climb of 220 steps leads to a viewing platform that offers extensive views of the New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania landscape.

Wherever you set your sights, the ride to and from the trailhead is sure to be an adventure behind the wheel of your favorite Subaru.
